MSU Talent Search students place second at competitions in Atlanta

A group of high school students participating in Morehead State's Educational Talent Search (ETS) program came in second place at the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Regional Student Initiatives competition last month in Atlanta, Georgia.

The team placed 2nd in the High Q academic team competition. Students on the team included:

  • Gabe Applegate, a junior from Lewis County
  • Cloey Davis, a senior from Magoffin County
  • Rylee Hilderbrand, a senior from Carter County
  • Garrett Jenkins, a senior from Carter County
  • Ethan Lung, a sophomore from Lewis County

The MSU Talent Search team competed against other Talent Search teams representing Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. After placing first at the state competitions in February, the team earned the right to represent Kentucky.

The SAEOPP Student Initiatives is an annual competition for students served in federally funded college access programs, including Talent Search, Upward Bound and Student Support Services. The MSU Talent Search program currently serves students in sixth through twelfth grades in a 12-county service region in Eastern Kentucky.
