Morehead State Public Radio earns numerous KBA Impact Broadcast Awards

Morehead State Public Radio (WMKY, 90.3FM) staff and students took home 14 awards in the 2023 Kentucky Broadcasters Association (KBA) Impact Broadcast Awards. The awards recognize the best in television and radio journalism for the calendar year of 2022.  

The awards were announced for both professional and college entries.  

The Impact Broadcast Awards competition recognizes KBA members and staffers for outstanding performance in broadcast journalism. The competition is open to all KBA members in Kentucky and outside Kentucky, with designated market areas that extend into Kentucky. To be eligible to enter, entries must be about news, features, or sports that occurred solely in Kentucky. Entries must have aired in the calendar year 2022.  

The KBA college competition recognizes Kentucky student broadcasters for outstanding performance in college broadcast journalism. The contest is open to any college in Kentucky. Entries must have aired in the calendar year 2022.  

WMKY earned 14 awards in the professional and college divisions, including eight first-place finishes. Student winners include:  

  • Hallie Adams (Class of 2023), first place for Best Radio Reporter, second place for Best Digital Journalist, second place for Best Newscast, and second place for Best Public Affairs Story.  
  • Mary Clare Carr (Class of 2023), first place for Best Newscast and second for Best Sports Coverage.  
  • Ethan Jenkins, senior fine arts major from Morehead, second place for Best Feature Story.  
  • Kennealy Jenkins (Class of 2023), first place for Best Sports Coverage.  
  • Anabel Peterman, a senior traditional music Major from Carlisle, first place for Best Feature Story.  
  • Clay Wallace (Class of 2023), first place for Best Newscast and Best Public Affairs Story.  

Former News Director Dr. Leeann Potter won two first-place professional awards for Best Long Newscast and Sports Reporting. Former Assistant News Director Tanner Boyd (Class of 2016) won second place for Best Long Newscast.  

WMKY also won first place for Best Website.
