Morehead State joins JED Campus for student mental health support  

Morehead State University has joined The Jed Foundation (JED) as a JED Campus to support student mental health and wellbeing.  

JED Campus is a nationwide initiative of JED, a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. The goal is to help schools evaluate and strengthen their mental health, substance misuse, and suicide prevention programs and systems. This will ensure schools have the most effective mental health safety nets possible.  

By joining JED Campus, MSU is one of over 400 campuses engaged in the program. JED Campuses execute a multi-year strategic collaboration that helps create positive, lasting, systemic change in the campus community.  

MSU’s membership in JED Campus begins with assembling an interdisciplinary, campus-wide team to assess, support, and implement program, policy, and system improvements. It also includes completing a confidential self-assessment survey on its mental health promotion, substance use, and suicide prevention efforts.   

After the assessment is complete, JED subject matter experts will provide Morehead State with feedback identifying successes and opportunities for improvement. For four years, MSU will collaborate with JED to help implement enhancements.  

“We’re excited to partner with the Jed Foundation to support this important initiative. Student mental health has emerged as a growing concern nationwide, and our institution is not an exception to this trend,” said Max Ammons, MSU’s dean of students.  

“The tools and expertise that are available through the JED Campus initiative enable us to better understand our students’ mental health, wellbeing, and sources of support and then apply best practices to help our students be healthy and successful in their academic pursuits.”
