Morehead State to offer vascular sonography degree concentration
Morehead State’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program will offer a new vascular sonography concentration beginning in the fall 2024 semester.
DMS students who choose the concentration will learn how to perform a vascular sonographic examination and can sit for the vascular sonography board examination. Vascular sonography is a noninvasive test healthcare providers use to determine how blood flows in arteries and veins in your arms, neck, and legs to diagnose blood clots, narrowed blood vessels, and other vascular health conditions.
Students in the program will receive hands-on learning in MSU’s imaging sciences facilities and through clinical placements in healthcare facilities throughout the region.
Jennifer Clark is an assistant professor of imaging sciences and the DMS program director. She said there is a high demand for vascular sonographers in Kentucky.
“There is a great need for vascular sonographers in our region,” Clark said. “Our health care facilities request we produce vascular sonographers, and it is our duty to fill the need of our region to better patient care.”
