Dr. Amy Staton named to national veterinary organization boards
Associate Professor of Veterinary Technology Dr. Amy Staton (Class of 2003, 2004, and 2013) has been named to the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE) Board of Directors and the nominating committee for the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).
The mission of the AVTE is to promote quality professional education for veterinary technician students. In addition, AVTE is dedicated to facilitating lifelong learning and professional development by providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas to stimulate improvement in veterinary technician education.
The AAVSB's mission is to support and advance the regulatory process for veterinary medicine. The organization exists to ease the burden of these regulators and to help them in their ultimate mission of public protection.
"I am honored to serve on both the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) and the Association of Veterinary Technology Educators (AVTE). I will be collaborating with numerous veterinary technology educators, as well as technicians and veterinarians working in the field, throughout the United States and Canada to determine how to best prepare our students for the profession in today's world. We live in a different world, and aligning our programs to the needs of the profession will allow us to provide the best tools for our students to become successful," Staton said.
Staton was appointed to the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners (KBVE) in April 2017 as the first licensed veterinary technician to serve on the Kentucky board. She has served on the Applications Committee, Government Affairs Committee, Education and Outreach Committee, and the Complaints Screening Committee.
