Morehead State housing staff wins state awards

Last month, Morehead State University staff members and student employees from the Office of Student Housing took home several awards at the 2023 Kentucky Association of Housing Officers (KAHO) statewide conference at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

Katie Vanover (Class of 2019), area coordinator, received the 2023 KAHO New Professional Award. The award goes to one professional annually across the Commonwealth. The KAHO New Professional Award recognizes someone for outstanding contributions and service to their institution. Recipients must have worked for the institution for at least one year but at most three years. Vanover oversees operations and staff for East Mignon Hall, Mignon Hall, and Nunn Hall.

Lauren Colyer, a senior social work major from Batavia, Ohio, received the 2023 Kentucky Association of Residence Halls. The award goes to one student annually across the Commonwealth for outstanding contributions to their institution and the Kentucky Association of Residence Halls. Colyer is the third MSU student to win this award in five years. She also received the 2023 KAHO Outstanding Student Employee award.

Mary Clare Huff, a junior exercise science major from Ashland, received the 2023 KAHO Service Award. Selected annually by a member institution’s chief housing officer, the KAHO Service Award recognizes a staff member who has given outstanding service to their university.

“To be recognized by the state body for the work that we do on campus is a great honor for our department and our outstanding professionals,” said Dr. Alan Rucker, director of housing and residence education. “It’s a testament to the good work that all of our staff undertakes for student success.”
