Morehead State offers affordability guidance with FAFSA workshops

Morehead State University is known for academic quality and affordability. In response to the difficulties in completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), MSU is hosting three FAFSA completion workshops in the region.

The events are open to the public, and all students and parents who still need to complete the FAFSA are encouraged to attend. MSU admissions and financial aid counselors can answer questions regarding financial aid packages. In addition, MSU will partner with KHEEA (Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority) and TRIO Commonwealth Education Opportunity Center representatives to meet the needs of attendees.

Dr. Heidi Neal, assistant vice president for enrollment management, said FAFSA filers are down from this time last year and MSU wanted to step in to help more people navigate the process and make college as affordable as possible.

“FASFA is a major resource for determining how students are going to pay for college and a major factor in determining where they’re going to attend college. We wanted to provide resources of our financial aid and admission experts to our service region and community members,” Neal said. “Regardless of what college they wanted to attend, we recognize that college attainment is a major opportunity to climb the ladder and break the poverty cycle. As the major four-year public institution within our service region, we felt it was our obligation to help our community and guide them through the hurdles.”

Attendees may need the following information or documents they complete the 2024-25 FAFSA form:

“We have been tasked by the state to provide services and education to our service region, and so for us, this is a mission-critical piece that we help our community members obtain their federal and state aid and understand the very confusing and complicated FASFA filing this year,” Neal said. “These events are held in public location as our focus is not just admitted students, but anyone who is interested in obtaining higher education at any institution. We are committed to the service region and making it a better place.”
