Savannah Reed to represent MSU at Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival
Morehead State University student Savannah Reed will represent MSU as a queen candidate at the 2024 Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival.
Reed is the daughter of Todd and Robin Reed. An alum of Craft Academy for Excellence in Science & Mathematics, she is a junior from Owensboro majoring in veterinary science, focusing on small animal emergency medicine.
Andrew Steven Dorn of Florence, the son of Steven and Gretchen Dorn and an alum of Craft Academy, will escort her to the festival.
Upon graduation, Reed hopes to remain in the Eastern Kentucky region and make a difference in students' lives.
"I look forward to, and am honored, to represent MSU at this year's Mountain Laurel Festival," Reed said. "I am excited to share our tight-knit community with others while promoting kindness and inclusivity. This opportunity means the world to me, and I am eager to make my university proud."
Reed is an active MSU Pre-Veterinary Club member and a dedicated volunteer at her hometown's theater. She continues to mentor current Craft Academy students, giving back by guiding and preparing aspiring students interested in veterinary medicine.
The Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival started in 1931. Each year, colleges and universities in Kentucky select one representative to participate in the pageant, which is held annually over Memorial Day weekend. The tradition of crowning the Mountain Laurel Queen will occur on Saturday, May 25, at Pine Mountain State Resort Park.
Past Mountain Laurel Queens from MSU include Jamie Nicole Blair (Class of 2003, 2004), Sharon Lue Goldsberry (Class of 1977) in 1975, and Kelly Michele Holdren (Class of 1982, 1984) in 1982.
