"We are excited to have Dr. Adkins join our team in the Center," said Megan Boone, director of CCDEE and the Office of Career Services. "He has a varied background that will set him up for success in guiding students to build relevant career skills through traveling, studying and interning abroad."

Adkins earned a Ph.D. in political science from Kent State University, an M.A. in political science from East Stroudsburg University, and a B.A. in communication from Utah Valley University. In the fall of 2021, he joined MSU as a faculty member teaching political science and public administration in the Department of History, Philosophy, Politics, Global Studies, & Legal Studies.

Adkins previously taught political science at Montana State University Billings and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He also has a background in journalism, working as a sports and news reporter for several publications. Before switching careers to academia, Adkins was the Mountain States Poll director in Montana.

While longing to travel abroad for most of his life, Adkins traveled to Europe for a short trip to Finland and Estonia in the fall of 2021. He has visited Europe five times and once traveled to Chile. During his three years at MSU, he led education abroad experiences in Finland and Estonia during the spring break of 2023 and Hungary and Romania during the spring break of 2024. Adkins plans to return to Finland, Estonia, and Sweden to lead another Education Abroad experience in the spring break of 2025. He also participated in a faculty exchange in Finland with Magellan Exchange during spring break 2022.

Adkins will support our students as they work through the planning of traveling abroad, securing funding, and having an international experience that broadens their perspectives and prepares them for a global workforce.

"One of the best things a student can do during their time at MSU is find a way to travel abroad," Adkins said. "One of my jobs is find an experience that can help you grow as a person and professionally, as well as be as affordable as possible."

MSU's Center for Career Services & Experiential Education ensures students build relevant career skills, broaden their academic opportunities, and engage in hands-on experiences. Students and faculty can contact him to see what opportunities are available and learn more about scholarships and other financial aid available to support them in participating in education abroad.
