Art alum earns prestigious grant
An MSU art alum has been awarded a prestigious grant and will be featured in two year-long exhibits.
Sinclaire Marie (Class of 2022) is featured in a year-long ceramics residency for the "Fire & Clay: A Celebration of Wood-Fired Ceramics" group exhibition at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. She was also selected for the year-long Queen City Clay Atmospheric Firing Residency in Cincinnati, Ohio. To fund her move to Cincinnati, Marie is holding a ceramics sale and fundraiser.
In addition to her current exhibits, Marie received the KY Great Meadows Foundation Artist Professional Grant, which supports professional visual artists in Kentucky.
Born in the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, Marie graduated from MSU in 2022 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art (BFA) specializing in ceramics. She served as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Golding-Yang Art Gallery. In 2021 and 2022, she published her work in Inscape, MSU's literary and visual arts journal.
"Sinclaire's work is a true embodiment of who she is and what she values most. She has been deeply involved in researching wood kiln firing, a technique she was first introduced to at MSU," said Quinn Maher, instructor of ceramics. "Her passion for this method has led her to connect with like-minded ceramic artists throughout the region, furthering her research and artistic goals. Sinclaire's pottery showcases the unique surface effects that wood kiln firing provides."
