Morehead State SOARS again, earns highest ever university ranking

Morehead State University continues to move up the ranking’s charts in U.S. News and World Report. Recent rankings for 2024 show that MSU has captured the #14 position among all top public regional universities in the South – the highest ranking in the history of the University.

MSU's highest-ever ranking reflects the institution's emphasis on quality academic programs that provide opportunities to gain real-world experience while fostering a welcoming sense of community. Now in its 40th year, the rankings evaluate nearly 1,500 national colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality and place an emphasis on social mobility and outcomes for graduating college students.

In the University Regional South Category, U.S. News & World Report also recognized MSU as one of the Best Colleges for Veterans, Best Value Schools, and Top Performers on Social Mobility.

“We are very pleased that we have made tremendous advances in our rankings over the past 6-7 years. Once you get into the Top 15 you are getting noticed, and we are in that group at #14 with some other strong schools,” said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan. “With our plans to move MSU forward with new and improved academic and residential facilities while maintaining our academic quality, this improved ranking indicates we are headed in the right direction as we strive to be a great university in the South.”

The rankings emphasize acceptance rates, graduation rates, admissions selectivity, faculty rankings, alumni giving rates, and small class sizes. Class size and personal attention have always been strengths of MSU, with a small student-faculty ratio and an average class size of 16 allowing for more significant one-on-one time with the University's experienced and dedicated faculty and staff. MSU provides services and resources to guide and support students through their college experience.

The rankings include public institutions with bachelor's degrees in 12 states of the South, and they will appear in the magazine's "Best Colleges of 2024" guidebook in early October.
