MSU hosts Robby Moore's 'Black History Month' exhibit
Morehead State's Department of Communication, Media, Art & Design is hosting artist Robby Moore's "Black History Month" exhibition at the Golding-Yang Art Gallery.
"Black History Month" touches on the heritage, fears and frustrations West Virginia-born artist Robby Moore experienced growing up Black in Appalachia. His art conveys his family's personal stories and history while sharing the fear of losing hope, rights or even life. Moore's mixed-media pieces also cover the themes of covering up both racial atrocities and the success of minority groups.
"When you're black, every month is Black History Month," Moore said in his exhibition statement. "So much of this exhibition's theme is about my own ignorance of Black American history. I've only recently learned many of these stories that I chose as inspiration. There's a part of me that feels guilty/foolish because I did not know the names, images and stories of people who suffered and led the way for me to have the freedom and privilege to create this art."
The exhibition runs weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 27. There will be an artist reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. The exhibition is open to the public.
