Morehead State soars in social media, ranked Top 25 for Facebook

Morehead State University's engagement through social media with students, alumni and the community continues to soar to new heights in national rankings.

MSU climbed the 2024 Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report rankings published by Rival IQ this past August, ranking 102 overall in the Division I category (up from 206 in 2023). MSU is ranked second among public institutions in the state, ahead of the University of Louisville, Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University, Northern Kentucky University, and Western Kentucky University.

Morehead State's Facebook page also made a giant leap and is now ranked in the Top 25 in the nation (#22, up 41 spots), the highest among all Kentucky public universities.

On Instagram, MSU is again in the Top 200 (135, up 26 spots from last year). The University's X/Twitter account also made a substantial jump on the list, going from 282 in 2023 to 97 in 2024.

"It is an honor to have our University ranked this high among institutions that are easily three to four times our size and that are notable on their name alone," said Jordan Hardin, social media communications specialist for MSU's Office of Communications & Marketing. "'A Light to the Mountains' by Donald F. Flatt has been the inspiration for me since I have taken over social media, and I always try to reflect that title and deeper meaning into every aspect of our social media accounts as we engage with MSU students, faculty, staff, alumni and followers of the University."

Rival IQ's 2024 Higher Education Social Media Engagement Report ranked Division 1 and Division 2 Schools based on engagement rates and totals and posting frequency across social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter/X.

"The recognition and rise in rankings of Morehead State shows our consistent effort to bring the Eagle experience to life online through social media," said Rick Hesterberg (Class of 1980), vice president for university advancement. "The creative team works hard to bring the sense of community that MSU fosters on campus to a wider online audience, and our national rankings reflect that positive impact and engagement."
