MSU brings 'Charlie Brown' to the stage
Morehead State University will bring Charlie Brown, Snoopy and other iconic "Peanuts" characters to the stage.
Students from MSU's theatre and dance programs will present the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!" at the Lucille Caudill Little Theater. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 31 through Nov. 2, Nov. 7-9, and 2 p.m. Nov. 3 and Nov. 10.
Based on Charles M. Schulz's popular comic strip, which led to many seasonal cartoon specials, the musical follows a group of friends, including Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Sally and others, navigating the ups and downs of childhood and life lessons.
The show is directed by Octavia Biggs, director of Morehead State's Little Theatre Company, and musically directed by Dr. Eric Brown, associate professor of music—voice. It will feature a series of vignettes featuring memorable moments from the Peanuts world and songs like "My Blanket and Me," "Suppertime," and "Happiness."
Bigg said this is the first time MSU Theatre and Dance has produced a musical theatre production in five years, and playing around with these popular characters was a joyful experience.
"Watching and working with the cast and crew during the process has been beyond fun," Biggs said. "I have found myself being so silly in the rehearsal process, singing the songs throughout the day and also watching many videos. I also feel like adding the character of Shultz into the show will offer our audiences a glimpse into the importance of developing your artistic creativity."
Biggs said MSU offering a musical featuring such beloved characters would be a wonderful way to bring together not just the campus community but theatergoers throughout the region.
"I am excited to build back our relationship with the community, and we already have several organizations in town that are planning to attend," she said. "I think nurturing that relationship between the MSU and their service region is so vital for both parties. Finally, it's CHARLIE BROWN! That within itself is a sweet treat!"
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for faculty, senior citizens, and non-MSU students. MSU students get in for free. Tickets can be purchased at the box office.
