MSU PROFESSOR SHARES RESEARCH ON HEALTH INSURANCE ANALYSIS
Dr. Bo Shi's research focuses on healthcare access, costs, and insurance, and her work is now gaining international recognition.
Shi, an associate professor of finance at the Smith College of Business & Technology, published two articles in the May 2024 issue of "Risk Management and Insurance Review."
Shi believes the publications could lead to great student opportunities.
“Knowledge-wise, the content is highly relevant to each one of us,” Shi said. “We need to know how to get access to healthcare services. For students, the context extends to multiple careers: health insurance, healthcare policy studies, and regulatory agencies.”
"Risk Management and Insurance Review" features high-quality applied research, insightful opinions, and data insights in risk and insurance. Department Chair and Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship Dr. Janet Ratliff could not be happier.
“Not only are we excited about Dr. Shi's research in healthcare being published, but we are equally excited about the opportunities it provides to our students,” Ratliff said. “Her research helps to inform her teaching, so her course content stays current and relevant."
Shi co-wrote the articles with the help of Etti G. Baranoff, Thomas W. Sager, Charles Yang, and Dalit Baranoff. Her pieces can be viewed below:
- “Medical care services interplay between individual and Medicaid managed care markets in expansion versus non-expansion states”
- “Supply chain/transaction cost insights into the profitability of health insurers during 2020, the start of COVID-19"
Shi says things are just getting started, and she is working on another research project that aims to share essential health insurance knowledge to help individuals access timely care.
