Observe the Moon Night set for Oct. 19
The International Observe the Moon Night will be held at the Star Theater on Oct. 19 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Activities will include back-to-back, full-dome planetarium and laser shows, videos on space exploration in the rotunda, hands-on kids' activities and more. If the weather permits, solar scope/telescope viewing will be outside.
The event, sponsored by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Solar System Exploration Division and the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, has been an annual event since 2009.
"My favorite aspect is seeing the kids really getting into the hands-on science activities," said Pamela Clark. Clark has been running the activities for this event since she became director of the Star Theater in 2021.
The Star Theater will partner with various MSU student and community organizations. MSU's Commercial Music Ensemble will perform lunar-themed music. The Rowan County Quilters will display Cosmic-themed quilts. MSU's astronomy, rocket, meteorology, and SWISE (Society of Women in Space Exploration) clubs will be involved in the festivities.
A ticket for this event is $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. Children three and younger will receive free admission. You can register in advance and pay online or by cash or check at the door.
