MSU Board of Regents approves second new residence hall
As part of its transformative campus revitalization plan, Morehead State prioritizes improving the on-campus living experience by constructing a modern residence hall and updating existing residential facilities.
Those plans now include a second new residence hall for current and future students.
MSU's Board of Regents approved the construction of the second new residence hall at a meeting on Friday, Nov. 15, at MSU at Mt. Sterling. The hall has received approval from the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) Finance Committee and is waiting for full CPE Board approval. The new residence hall will house students across four floors. MSU will soon begin the design phase and finalize a location for construction, which will start in late summer 2025 and be completed by mid-fall 2026.
"This is an exciting time for Morehead State as we continue to invest in our campus and our students. The announcement of our second new residence hall reflects our commitment to providing modern, comfortable living spaces that foster community and enhance the overall student experience," said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan. "These new facilities will not only meet the needs of our growing campus but also support our mission of preparing students for success both inside and outside the classroom."
The meeting's other priorities included recognizing Vice President of University Advancement Rick Hesterberg (Class of 1980) for his years of service before his upcoming retirement at the end of the year.
The board also recognized Senior Instructor of Communication and five-time MSU graduate Dr. Donell Murray (Class of 2003, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2017) and Sarah Miller, a senior elementary education major from Mt. Sterling.
Other actions include the approval of razing Normal Hall, naming the new residence hall, and creating a new Doctor of Engineering program. The amended budget and audit were approved, along with the organizational chart and changes to policy PG-6. Capital projects and property acquisition were also approved.
