Morehead State mourns the death of former director of theatre, Dr. Travis Lockhart
Dr. Travis Lockhart, former director of Morehead State University's theatre program, died on Nov. 21.
Lockhart was a graduate of Baylor University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Texas at Austin. He also taught at the Minnesota Theatre Company, Buena Vista College in Iowa, the University of Texas at Austin, and East Carolina University before coming to Morehead State.
From 1982 until his retirement in 2005, Lockhart made an indelible impact on the theatre program at MSU, and his influence and mentorship are still present in the theatre program.
After retirement, he remained in Morehead, where he found a permanent home where he was instrumental in the growth and quality of the theatre in the Morehead community. He created the Morehead Theatre Guild, Morehead's community theatre program, in 1989. The Guild has since completed over 100 shows produced, directed, and performed by community members of all ages.
Lockhart will be missed by his colleagues, students and the Morehead community.
Through an estate gift, the Dr. Travis Lockhart Theatre Scholarship Endowment was established to provide scholarships to junior or senior students majoring in theatre at MSU.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Dr. Travis Lockhart Scholarship Endowment. Contributions can be made online at https://alumni.moreheadstate.edu/lockhart.
