Morehead State 2024 Fall Commencement is Dec. 14

Kaylee Whitaker HeadshotMorehead State University has announced details for the 2024 Fall Commencement.

The commencement ceremony for fall and winter 2024 graduates begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Academic-Athletic Center (AAC).

The student speaker for the 2024 Fall Commencement is Kaylee Whitaker of Whitesburg. She represents the Ernst & Sara Lane Volgenau College of Education. She is the daughter of Lance and Rhoda Whitaker (Class of 1995, 1997) and the sister of Courtney Whitaker (Class of 2024) and current MSU student Lance Ethan Whitaker. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Grades (5-9) Mathematics & English Language Arts/Linguistics.

Whitaker is a recipient of the Kentucky Scholar and Alumni Scholarships. She was named to the Dean's List for eight consecutive semesters and passed all three Praxis certification tests before graduation. As an undergraduate student, Whitaker was a Kappa Delta Sorority member, receiving the Kappa Delta Foundation Scholarship and being named to the Order of Omega Society, which comprises the top 3% of Greek Life juniors and seniors. Whitaker helped return the Kentucky Education Association – Aspiring Educators student organization to campus.

MSU will also confer a Doctor of Humane Letters to Director Emeritus Aristófanes Cedeño. Since 1992, he has worked with Kentucky’s Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP). MSU has been a host campus for GSP for 14 years.

MSU will also host events celebrating student groups the week before commencement.

The Lavender Graduation is at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in the Adron Doran University Center (ADUC) Theater. This annual ceremony honors LGBTQ+ students and acknowledges their campus accomplishments and contributions.

The Rites of Passage ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in the ADUC Theater. This ceremony celebration is a ritual for minority and international students at MSU that marks a change from one stage of life to the following, commemorating graduation.

No tickets are required for the commencement ceremony, and there is no limit on the number of guests who may attend. Accommodated seating for guests and their families will be available at the AAC. This seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving before the ceremony begins is recommended. MSU will live-stream the ceremony for those who are unable to attend.
