MSU mourns the death of James ‘Sarge’ Sergent
Morehead State University mourns the loss of James Kindrich “Sarge” Sergent, 62, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, at UK-St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
An alumnus and retiree, Sergent graduated from MSU in 1987.
He was an active member of Theta Chi Fraternity, Eta Gamma Chapter. His dedication was honored when the fraternity created the “James K. Sergent Brotherhood Award.” He was also named Big Brother to the Delta Zeta Sorority, Kappa Tau Chapter.
During his time at University, Sergent worked as a campus security officer with the MSU Police Department. He retired in 2013.
A celebration of his life is at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, with Brother J.R. Keeton officiating and Darick Brown leading the Theta Chi Chapter Eternal Ceremony. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025. A burial will follow later at Cox Cemetery #2 in West Liberty.
Pallbearers are Cooper Fleming, Conner Fleming, Ricky Fleming, Toby Gardner, David Sexton, and Zack Highley. Honorary pallbearers include active and alumni members of Theta Chi Fraternity, Eta Gamma Chapter.
