MSU Pays Tribute to Recently Deceased Retirees

Morehead State University is mourning the recent deaths of three retirees: Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems Dr. Randall McCoy of Stanton Kentucky; Administrative Assistant Joyce Hart and Library Staff Member Martha “Helen” Rowe, both of Morehead, Kentucky.

Randall McCoy Obit HeadshotDr. McCoy passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 67. A 1986 graduate of MSU, he earned his Doctor of Education from the University of Georgia and was an associate professor of Computer Information Systems at MSU.

Known for his dedication to teaching and leadership, he served as a state advisor and chapter advisor for Phi Beta Lambda. After the spring 2024 semester, McCoy was also granted emeritus status.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughters, Victoria Jasser and Rebekkah Layne; two grandchildren; and four brothers and one sister. Services were held at Hearne Funeral Home in Stanton, Kentucky, with burial at Vaughn’s Mill Cemetery in Clay City. Joyce Hart Obit Headshot

Hart passed away on December 13, 2024, at the age of 86. A lifelong resident of Morehead, she served as the executive assistant to MSU President Adron Doran before working as an office manager at Cave Run Clinic.

She is survived by her three children, four grandsons, and two siblings.

Visitation and a celebration of life service were held at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), respectively. A private burial took place at Lee Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Christian Church Mack Fund.

Martha Howe Obit HeadshotRowe passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 73, after a battle with vascular dementia. A native of Texas, she earned her GED and a bachelor's degree in social work from MSU in 1993. Helen worked at the Camden-Carroll Library before continuing her career at the Morgan County Public Library.

She is survived by her two children, four grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and brother. A Celebration of Life will be held on Jan. 18, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Morehead.
