MSU mourns the loss of Dr. Sue Luckey

Sue Luckey HeadshotDr. Sue Y. Luckey, a longtime former faculty member and passionate supporter of Morehead State and its mission, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the age of 90.

Luckey joined the business faculty at MSU in 1963 and immediately became highly active on campus. She served as an advisor to multiple student organizations and on the faculty senate and other college and University-level committees. Luckey also served as chair of the former Department of Information Sciences in the College of Business and directed the University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.

She was also the driving force behind the creation of the MSU Retirees Association. Luckey’s work to develop the program led to its being named a “national model” among its peer groups.

Even after her retirement, Luckey remained a passionate supporter of MSU. She and her late husband, Dr. George “Mac” Luckey, often attended MSU events and volunteered their time. Additionally, following Mac’s passing in 2020, Sue took additional steps to make the University a philanthropic priority, including MSU in her estate plans and establishing the Dr. Sue Y. Luckey Scholarship for Business and the Dr. George M. Luckey Honors Student Enrichment Endowment.

Last year, the Morehead State University Board of Regents named Luckey as the 2024 recipient of the Morehead State University Founders Award for University Service, given to individuals who have given superior service to MSU as employees or volunteers.

“Dr. Luckey made a tremendous impact at MSU, and she selflessly served the University long after her retirement,” said Allison Caudill (Class of 2005, 2009), vice president for University Advancement. “She was kind and compassionate and we were so honored to call her an Eagle.”

Services will be held at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive in Morehead.
