MSU recognizes Fall 2025 Community Engaged Eagles
Morehead State University has named more than 200 students to the Fall 2025 Presidential Community Engaged Eagles list, recognizing their commitment to community and civic engagement.
During the Fall 2025 semester, students participated in a variety of service-learning projects that enabled them to apply classroom learning while addressing local and regional needs.
Students engaged with local schools, nonprofits, and community agencies throughout the semester. Their projects included mentoring and supporting K–12 students, assisting with after-school programs, helping to organize and staff community events, supporting health education and awareness efforts, and contributing to service initiatives that addressed food insecurity, environmental stewardship, and social well-being.
Through these experiences, students developed leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while building meaningful connections with community partners.
“The students recognized through the Presidential Community Engaged Eagles list show how learning extends beyond the classroom and into the community,” said Andrew Sexton (Class of 2020 and 2022), coordinator of service learning at MSU. “Through their service experiences, students developed a deeper understanding of community needs, strengthened skills connected to their academic and career goals, and reflected on their role as engaged citizens. Their commitment to service speaks to the lasting impact students can have when learning and community engagement are intentionally connected.”
To be named to the Presidential Community Engaged Eagles list, students must take part in a service project and write a reflection about what they learned. These reflections serve as a vital tool for helping students articulate the value of engaged learning, both to themselves and to their future employers and communities.
