Dr. Donell Murray receives OVC Outstanding Faculty Award
A Morehead State faculty member was awarded one of the Ohio Valley Conference's top honors. Senior Instructor of Communication Dr. Donell Murray (Class of 2003, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2017) is the recipient of the OVC's Outstanding Faculty Commitment to Student Success Award.
The awards were established in 2023 by the provosts from each OVC member institution (11 in total) to recognize outstanding faculty at each institution. The recipients were announced at the OVC Basketball Championship in Evansville, Indiana.
Murray is an instructor in the Department of Communication, Media, Art & Design, and a five-time MSU graduate. She completed her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) at MSU, where she focused her research on international students' communication and academic success. Murray's continued research is evident in the creation and direction of the International Peer Mentoring Program (IPMP) at MSU. She has presented research, along with her research fellows, at several regional, national, and international conferences.
“In being at MSU as a nontraditional student, staff employee and a long-standing faculty member, this University is golden,” Murray said.
Each institution could nominate a faculty member with the rank of associate or full-time professor. The criteria included impacts on students, contributions to the department, university, and curriculum development, consistent professional development, community involvement, and institutional service.
Murray said it is humbling to receive an honor where winners were recognized for their impact on students.
“There are many faculty who do what I do every single day,” she said. “It takes a village to help students succeed. The faculty/staff connection is so important for our students.”
