Morehead State student selected for statewide leadership

A Morehead State University student has been selected for a unique opportunity to address food insecurity and strengthen communities across Kentucky.

Hunter McGlone, a senior chemistry education major from Olive Hill, has been added to the 2026 cohort of Kentucky Hunger Dialogue Junior Fellows, a competitive program that recognizes undergraduate students committed to fighting hunger and advancing food justice.

The Kentucky Hunger Dialogue, a statewide initiative led in partnership with EngageKY, brings together students, campus leaders and community organizations to develop solutions to food insecurity. As a junior fellow, McGlone will take part in leadership development, training and community-focused work aimed at addressing hunger on college campuses and in local communities.Hunter McGlone

"Food insecurity is a problem we as a community face, especially on college campuses,” McGlone said. “To have the ability to get educated about how we can tackle that problem was an exciting opportunity."

At Morehead State, McGlone has been actively involved in service initiatives through the Center for Career Development and & Experiential Education, which he credits for helping shape his path.

"Morehead State offered me many opportunities to get me where I am, but the biggest division that got me interested and motivated to take up the mantle of this opportunity was the Center for Career Development and Experiential Education,” he said. "The center has given me countless opportunities to positively impact the community and learn through experiential education."

Coordinator of Service-Learning Andrew Sexton (Class of 2020, 2022) says McGlone’s selection reflects both his dedication to service and his potential to create meaningful change.

"I am incredibly proud of the initiative that Hunter has taken since working in the Center for Career Development and Experiential Education,” Sexton said. “His passion for community service and meeting the needs of others is evident in his work in the Kentucky Hunger Dialogue as a junior fellow."

McGlone is one of four students selected statewide for the 2026 Junior Fellows cohort, representing institutions across Kentucky and a shared commitment to building a more food-secure future.
