Maxey designates MSU planned gift for Fleming County students

The Morehead State University Foundation is honored to announce a significant planned gift from MSU alumna Wanda Rawlings Maxey (Class of 1957). Maxey, a resident of Flemingsburg, gifted her 61.5-acre property to the MSU Foundation upon her passing in 2023.

Upon the sale of the property, the proceeds will create an endowment fund for the Wanda Rawlings Maxey Scholarship Endowment, providing opportunities for future MSU students from Flemingsburg to pursue a college education.

Maxey earned a bachelor's degree from MSU and started her teaching career at the one-room McGregor Schoolhouse.  She also taught at Hillsboro Elementary before becoming a Fleming County teacher supervisor and Head Start supervisor. Maxey served as the treasurer of Ringo's Mills Christian Church, a member of the Fleming County Hospital Board, and a patron of Fleming County Library. Her legacy will continue to make a difference for years to come, both at her alma mater and the Flemingsburg community.

To fulfill this planned gift, an auction for the property will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, on-site at Markwell Road in Hillsboro.

For more information about the auction, please contact C. Roger Lewis Agency, Inc. at bigdrealty@yahoo.com or call 606-776-1513.
