Morehead State hosts Community Concert in downtown Morehead
Morehead State is collaborating with the community to present a special performance in honor of America 250.
Musical groups of student musicians and faculty from MSU’s Department of Music & Theatre will perform as part of the MSU Community Concert in downtown Morehead. The show takes place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Battson-Oates Commons located at the corner of East Main Street and Battson Oates Drive.
The event is planned in conjunction with the Rowan County Veterans Museum and the City of Morehead. The MSU Community Concert, formerly known as the President’s Concert on the Lawn, will feature three 30-minute sets of patriotic and Americana music from the Kentucky Center for Traditional Music Ensemble, the MSU Jazz Ensemble and the MSU Brass Band.
"This concert is a wonderful opportunity to bring together students, families, alumni and community members in the heart of downtown Morehead. As we celebrate America 250, we are proud to showcase the talents of our students and faculty while honoring the traditions, stories and music that connect us to our nation and to one another," said MSU President Dr. Jay Morgan.
The MSU Community Concert will be one of several events taking place during MSU’s Family Weekend, as well as in honor of America 250. MSU will offer programs commemorating America 250 that will engage students, faculty, staff and community members through lectures, exhibits, performances and educational events throughout the coming academic year.
"We wanted to create an opportunity for the MSU and Morehead communities to come together, enjoy some great music and end the week with a celebration of America 250," said Hannah Curreri (Class of 2024, 2025), outreach programs marketing and events coordinator for MSU’s Office of Alumni Relations & Development.
