Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology at Morehead State University:

Be a Part of our Progress!

Sociology

Do you want a career in Sociology?

Does the study of groups and individuals in our society peak your interest? For example, have you ever wondered why members of some groups experience forms of privilege while others are riddled with conflict? Are you curious about how race/ethnicity, wealth, political power, sexuality, or education become the bases of inequality between those that make up our society? Are you curious about how these inequalities are broken down or challenged?

Social Work

What about a career in Social Work?

Is it the opportunity to work for the welfare and safety of children and families?  Is it advocating for those in need of critical human resources, including services for the homeless, substance abuse prevention, anti-violence facilities, and family planning and preservation? Is it producing local, regional, or state grants or policies aimed at improving the lives of men, women, and children?

Criminology

Perhaps Criminology is the career path for you?

Do you find criminological theories, law enforcement, and case studies involving crime and punishment important? Fascinating? Would you like to learn what causes crime or how to prevent it? What about exploring how race, socio-economic class, and other of forms of inequality impact sentencing or criminal justice policies and guidelines?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, consider the excellent programs in the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminology at Morehead State University.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminology at Morehead State University – SSWC – offers a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology, Masters of Arts degrees in Sociology and Criminology as well as minors in all three areas. Does work or family responsibilities limit your ability to commute? If so, conduct Sociology, Social Work and Criminology classes online or earn a Bachelors of Social Work degree at MSU’s regional campuses in Prestonsburg, Ashland, and Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
