MSUCorps

MSUCorps has been at Morehead State University since 1994 with more than 1,000 members serving. The mission of our program is to increase the educational success of high risk school-age youth by providing reading or math tutoring and other coordinated direct services. Additionally, members participate in community service and participate in national service projects.

This program is funded by AmeriCorps and Serve KY. Currently, the MSUCorps program has 30 members serving in K-12 schools throughout MSU's service region, including Boyd, Greenup, Lawrence, Morgan, Clark, Bath and Bourbon counties.

To be an MSUCorps member, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or a GED and either 48 hours of college credit or pass the para-educator exam.
  • Provide 1,700 hours of service in exchange for a living allowance, health benefits and an education award.

A longitudinal study released by AmeriCorps indicates it is building a powerful pipeline for public servants, civic leaders, and social entrepreneurs. Being a member of Americorps has a significant positive impact on your attachment to community, your understanding of community problems, your sense of efficacy in working to address community needs and your participation in community meetings and events.

Community and National Service Projects

MSUCorps members plan and implement Community and National Service Projects for 9/11 Day of Service, Make A Difference Day, Veteran's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Emergency Preparedness Month.
