Apply to the Craft Academy

Craft Academy applicants are high school sophomores who will have completed Geometry, Algebra I, and Algebra II by the end of their sophomore year.

How are students selected?

Students are selected based on ACT scores, academic grades from ninth and tenth grades, interest in advanced careers in science, technology, engineering and math, student responses to application essay questions, interviews by academy staff members, and recommendations from teachers and other individuals who can attest to a student’s need and preparedness for the program.

To apply for fall, you must:

  • Be a current resident of the state of Kentucky.
  • Be a high school sophomore.
  • Complete Geometry, Algebra I and Algebra II before enrollment.
  • Have a suggested GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • ACT score minimum of 18 in English and 22 in math.
  • Submit a completed online application and mail supplemental items or send them via email to
  • craftacademy@moreheadstate.edu.

Required Supplemental Items

  • An official high school transcript.
  • ACT scores. The December ACT of your sophomore year is the last ACT that can be accepted for the application process.
  • Single-page cover letter. 
  • A check sheet that the student’s guidance counselor completes.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be written by a STEM teacher and one written by a community member.

Apply to the Craft Academy

You may save your application at any point and finish at a later time. Please remember your login information and password. If you have forgotten this information, please do not create a new application or account. If you cannot access your account, please contact our office at 606-783-2093 or craftacademy@moreheadstate.edu.

Begin the application process

 

Application Directions

  1. Click here to begin the application process. The application site will open in a new window.
  2. Select "Create Account." Create an account for your Craft Academy application, fill out your personal information, and select a password.
    • Answer the question, "Which statement best describes you?" with "Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics."
    • Your entry term should be "FALL TERM (choose the appropriate year)."
    • Your academic level should be "CRAFT ACADEMY."
    • Your academic program should be "CRAFT ACADEMY." 
  3. Start your application by entering your personal and academic information.
    • Under "application listing," select "CRAFT ACADEMY APPLICATION."
    • Select the area of interest "Fall Term 2025 - CRAFT ACADEMY," then select, "Start a new application here."
    • Complete the online application. Your entry term should be "FALL TERM (choose the appropriate year)," your academic level should be "Craft Academy," and your academic program should be "Craft Academy," then click "submit."
    • Complete the next section titled, "Personal." Please answer all questions.
    • Complete the section titled, "Academic Plans." For "Applying as which type of student," answer "High School Student Program (Dual Credit - Eagle Scholars)" and for "Applying to Enroll" answer "FALL TERM (choose the appropriate year)."
    • Complete the next section titled, "Family," then save and continue.
    • Complete the next section titled, "Academics." Your academic program should be "Craft Academy." Under "List any AP/IB/Honors classes and any organization participation," you can also list any academic clubs/organizations. Under "other organizations or activities," you can list social/recreational clubs/organizations.
    • Three essay questions are located at the bottom of this page. Please PRINT these for your future reference, then save and continue.
    • Certification - Certify the statement and click "submit application."
  4. Once you submit your application, you will be directed to a thank you page which contains information on all supplemental items, and the Craft Academy's mailing address (see below).
  5. Mail or email your supplemental items. All supplemental items must be submitted as a single, complete packet containing:
    • Three essay question responses (from the online application)
    • Three letters of recommendation
    • Official transcripts
    • ACT or SAT scores sent directly to Morehead State University (MSU ACT code: 1530)
    • Counselor Check Sheet

Application & Selection Dates

Applications are accepted beginning Aug. 1, 2024.

The application deadline is Feb. 1, 2025. Please submit your completed application online by that date and your supplemental items as a packet postmarked or emailed no later than that date. Students selected for interviews will be notified after the Feb. 1 deadline.

If selected, the interview date is Feb. 15, 2025.

Final selections will be made in April/May 2025. With limited available spots, sophomores will be selected to begin in the Fall of 2025 semester at Craft Academy as high school juniors.

Affording Craft Academy

Not only is the Craft Academy a solid educational foundation, but it also makes a college education more affordable. There is no cost for tuition, housing or a meal plan for students of the Craft Academy.

Students are responsible for the cost of textbooks*, additional meals and miscellaneous personal expenses. There is no fee to apply.

*The home district often covers the cost of textbooks, but not always. Inquire for more details.
