Accreditation
MSU's teacher preparation education programs are accredited by state and national organizations to ensure quality teacher preparation.
Accreditation
The Volgenau College of Education at Morehead State University is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (*CAEP). This covers initial teacher preparation only, for now, and in the future (2026) will include both initial and our advanced educator preparation programs. We earned this distinction through a process that ended in the spring of 2019. Our status is good through the spring of 2026. We will undergo individual program reviews of all initial and advanced programs in the Fall of 2024 by the Kentucky Department of Education’s Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB). Then, in the fall of 2025, we will engage in a self-study, site visit, and overall national accreditation process by the CAEP. The decision for approval will come in the spring of 2026.
This list shows ALL approved programs. Those listed as ‘Initial Undergraduate’ have been approved by both the EPSB and the CAEP. All other programs were approved through only the EPSB process.
*CAEP is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit preparation programs for teachers and other school professionals.
ACCREDITATION MATTERS
Accrediting agencies serve as third-party entities to ensure that institutions and academic programs meet standards for program quality. They monitor institutional commitment to continuous improvement and ensure that institutions of higher education meet acceptable levels of quality. Our process falls under the purview of the U.S. Department of Education. Moreover, according to the CAEP, "Educator accreditation is a seal of approval that assures quality in educator preparation. Accreditation makes sure that educator programs prepare new teachers to know their subjects and their students and have the clinical training that allows them to enter the classroom ready to teach effectively."
ACCREDITATION & SACSCOC
Morehead State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC). Program Review and EPP Accreditation, like other variables from across the campus community, figure into the formula used by SACS to grant accreditation to MSU at large.
