Student Support Services

This student-oriented program offers tutorial services, peer mentoring, and academic, financial, and personal counseling. The program provides opportunities for cultural enrichment and academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and motivates students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Student Support Services (SSS) aims to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students transition from one level of higher education to the next.

Our Purpose

Student Support Services aims to increase the college retention and graduation rates of participants and help students transition from one level of higher education to the next. SSS provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and motivates students toward completing their post-secondary education.

Eligibility

You must be admitted to Morehead State University before applying to Student Support Services. SSS participants must be either first-generation college students (neither parent has completed a 4-year college degree) and/or meet income guidelines determined by the U.S. Department of Education to be eligible for admittance to the program. SSS participants also must demonstrate an academic need.

Complete the Student Support Services Application and email it to j.poston@moreheadstate.edu. You may also drop by the SSS office, 2nd floor, Allie Young Hall and leave your packet with an SSS staff member.

Newsletter

The SSS monthly newsletter is filled with helpful information for students. 

Cultural Trips

Activities are planned each semester to expose you to the fine arts and broaden your cultural experiences. SSS provides transportation and tickets, and the events may include Broadway plays, musicals and dinner theatres.

Tutoring

Individual, group and online tutoring are offered in various general education classes. Tutoring and supplemental instruction are provided by select MSU students who have demonstrated academic excellence. Tutoring services are offered free of charge.

Our academic tutors in Student Support Services will assist you with:

  • Preparing for exams
  • Proofreading
  • Study skill methods
  • Time management
  • Understanding course content
