**Students that have completed all of their degree and major requirements before summer are NOT eligible.

Types of Aid

Summer Pell Grant: Pell Grants are available to students during the summer. Award amounts are based on the Expected Family Contribution from your 2021-22 FAFSA and the number of credits you enroll in. Note: Students who utilized their Pell awards for Fall and Spring must be enrolled for six hours to receive Pell for the summer session.

SEOG Grant: SEOG Grants are available to students during the summer. Award amounts are based on the Expected Family Contribution from your 2021-22 FAFSA and the number of credits you enroll in. There is limited funding for this award and will be considered first for the students with the most need.

Federal Direct Loans: If you did not accept the maximum amount of Federal Direct Loans in the academic year and are enrolled in at least six credit hours for summer, you may be offered Federal Direct Loans for summer. Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan amounts are based on the remaining loan eligibility you have left from the academic year. If you request loans on your summer aid application and if eligible, they will be included in your summer award package.

Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan: If your parents had a PLUS loan during the academic year and want to borrow a PLUS loan during the summer, a new application is required. See Financial Aid Forms.

Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan: For Graduate students, you may apply for a graduate PLUS loan - see Financial Aid Forms. The loan can then be accepted on your self-service account, just like in the academic year.

Private (Alternative) Student Loan: Undergraduate and graduate students may apply online. Private (alternative) student loans are subject to a credit check and may require a co-signer. Some alternative loan options are available for students enrolled in less than six hours (depending on the lender).

Summer Part-Time Federal Work-Study: You may apply for a part-time Federal Work Study when you complete the Summer Financial Aid Application.

Summer Full-Time Federal Work-Study: If you are not enrolled in summer courses and wish to apply for a full-time Federal Student Employment position, you will need to complete a Summer Full-Time Student Employment Form.

Financial Aid Forms

Sometimes students have an outside scholarship award or a company covering a portion or all of their tuition.

Summer Aid FAQ

For continuing students, you must complete the summer financial aid application (form available on Financial Aid forms during summer). Once awarding begins, your application will be processed, and you will receive a notification regarding your summer financial aid awards. Please allow up to one week for your summer aid application to be processed. You can view and accept/decline your summer awards on your self-service account once awarding begins. Please note that we may not begin processing these forms until May 1.

For newly admitted students, you must have a complete FAFSA on file and be enrolled Summer session. Once awarding begins, you can view and accept/decline your summer awards. Please allow up to one week for your summer aid application to be processed. Please note that we may not begin processing these forms until May 1.

Dropping a course may result in your financial aid awards being revised. Awards are based on the total summer session(s) enrolled. Therefore, dropping a course may cause an adjustment to your summer financial aid package.

Canceling a course may result in you being billed for a portion or all of your summer financial aid. If you drop/cancel below six credits, your aid may be canceled. Students must be enrolled in at least six credits to receive direct loans.

*Failing or not passing summer courses due to non-attendance may result in you being billed for a portion or all of your summer financial aid.

NOTE: Your financial aid package is revised any time there is a change in your enrollment status during Summer Session. If you make changes to your schedule for summer, please make sure to submit the Summer Change of Hours form.

If you already have a summer financial aid package and subsequently receive an outside award/resource(s) during the summer, your summer financial aid offer will be adjusted for that award and is dependent upon the conditions of the award. Generally, your need-based loans are reduced first to "make room" for that award. If the amount of outside aid exceeds the amount of need-based loans in your package, your grants (except for Pell Grants) are then reduced.

NOTE: Please report your summer outside award/resource(s) to finaid@moreheadstate.edu.
