Failure to Maintain SAP Standards
Students who fail to meet satisfactory progress standards as defined may appeal the ruling to the Office of Enrollment Services if they believe extenuating circumstances led to their failure to maintain satisfactory progress. Those desiring to appeal must do so in writing on the Satisfactory Progress Appeal Form and must attach a copy of their complete unofficial transcript and supporting documentation. The appeal form may be obtained in the Office of Enrollment Services. Students will be notified, in writing, of the action taken on their appeal.
Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form
For students placed on Unsatisfactory Academic Progress and wish to appeal. Students must provide a written or typed appeal and a copy of their unofficial transcript with the appeal form. Unofficial transcripts can be printed from the student's my.moreheadstate.edu account under "Academic Profile." Appeal forms received without a transcript and documentation will be returned unprocessed.
If a student is placed on financial aid suspension and has unusual circumstances (illness, death in the family, accident(s), etc.) that were a factor in not making satisfactory academic progress she/he has the right to appeal. Students who were determined to be at Maximum Time Frame (MTF) may request their coursework be evaluated based on classes needed for the current credentials through the use of a degree audit.
The Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal Form must be submitted to MSU Office of Financial Aid, Enrollment Services Center, 121 East Second St., Morehead, KY 40351 or faxed to 606-783-2293 by the student to include a typed letter, documentation and unofficial transcript.
Notes:
- The SAP Appeal Committee may request additional information.
- Financial Aid will not pay for courses taken by audit, credit hours earned by placement tests, or non-degree courses.
- Transfer credit hours count in the attempted/completed SAP hours recorded by Admissions.
- The SAP Appeal Committee may approve your appeal with certain academic progress conditions or limit future hours.
- If your appeal is denied, you will be responsible for expenses incurred at the college without the benefit of financial aid.
- The decision of the SAP Appeal Committee is final.
The student is responsible for payment arrangements with the institution pending a decision of the appeals committee. If approved, students will receive a plan or enter into a contract specifying academic requirements necessary to remain eligible to receive financial aid for the remainder of their enrollment or until SAP standards are achieved.
Decisions made by the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Committee are final and cannot be appealed.
