What to Bring

 

You know yourself best, and we want your residence hall assignment to feel like home while you're here. Feel free to bring whatever items will make you feel at home and at ease as long as they are allowed. When you are emailed the name and contact information of your roommate, it would be wise to contact them and figure out who is able to bring what from the list below of shared items. If you have questions about items that are or are not allowed, please don't hesitate to contact us. Note that this list is not all-inclusive.

PERSONAL ITEMS

  • XL Twin Bed Linens: MSU's Student Alumni Ambassadors offer a practical, convenient solution to ensuring you have the appropriate linens for your room at a discounted rate. You can purchase brand new, high quality sheets at a much lower price than department stores. Save time and money and guarantee you have the correctly sized linens.
  • Bath Towels
  • Bathrobe or wrap
  • Toiletry tote and toiletries
  • Flip flops (for shower)
  • Toilet Paper (for suites and apartments)
  • Trash can
  • Laundry bag/basket
  • Laundry detergent
  • Eating utensils (plates, glasses, bowls, silverware)
  • Cooking utensils (pots, pans, etc. for community kitchen)
  • Dish soap and other cleaning items (broom, dust pan, etc.)
  • Sewing kit
  • First aid kit
  • Alarm clock
  • Umbrella
  • Backpack
  • Desk or floor lamp (no halogen lamps)
  • Flashlight
  • Pictures and/or posters (can only be hung with poster putty, command strips, or painters tape)
  • Computer (wireless connectivity is available in every residence hall)
  • Free-standing shelves

Items that can or need to be shared by roommates:

  • Television
  • Blu-Ray/DVD/VCR player
  • Microwave (not to exceed 700 watts; one per room/suite)
  • Refrigerator (not to exceed 4.5 cubic feet, one per double room, two per four-person room)
  • Stereo
  • Extension cords (UL approved) and surge protectors

ITEMS YOU SHOULD NOT BRING

  • Halogen Lamps
  • Candles, incense, or oil lamps
  • Space heaters
  • Appliances with an open heating element such as toasters or hotplates.
  • Pets (except fish in a less than 10-gallon tank)
  • Fireworks, explosives, flammable liquids (gasoline, propane, etc.)
  • Duct tape
  • Bed lofts
  • Firearms or other weapons
  • Wireless routers
  • Portable washers/dryers
