Event & Camp Insurance

Events and camps held on University property that is sponsored by an outside individual or organization (third party) are required to have or obtain a minimum $1,000,000 general liability insurance policy. MSU has partnered with the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) to provide Tenant User Liability Insurance Policies (TULIP) to third parties. Coverage is purchased online, and a certificate of insurance is emailed directly to the MSU director of risk management and the special events planning manager. Third parties that already have liability coverage or that purchase it from another carrier must forward their certificate of insurance naming MSU as additionally insured to the director of risk management and the special events planning manager.

Events and camps that are sponsored by the University and supervised by University personnel are covered under the University liability policy. An event or camp is sponsored by the University only if a department of the University takes responsibility for the organization, hosting, and internal funding of the event or camp.

Special Rule for Sports Camps:

Events and camps that expose participants to a risk of injury that is not ordinarily present in an academic setting must carry both liability and excess medical insurance coverage. MSU has partnered with URMIA to offer a Sports Camps Insurance Program (SCIP) that includes both general liability and excess medical at a very affordable price. This coverage may be purchased online, and a certificate of insurance will be emailed directly to the MSU director of risk management and the special events planning manager. Sports camps that already have coverage or purchase it through another carrier must provide proof of insurance naming MSU as additionally insured to the director of risk management and the special events planning manager prior to the camp.
