Residence Hall Improvements
MSU is committed to providing safe and welcoming housing for our students. These updates will provide students with access to modern and improved living spaces.
Cooper Hall
Cooper Hall is undergoing a complete renovation that is projected to cost $10.8 million. Upon completion, the 35,000-square-foot facility will have 175 beds and collaborative spaces. Construction is expected to be finished in January 2025.
Nunn Hall
Nunn Hall, a 105,000-square-foot facility, will keep its current capacity of 400 beds. The $3.2 million renovation includes:
- New paint
- New countertops and lighting
- Patch, paint, and re-finish the exterior walkways
- New elevator equipment
- New chiller & other mechanical equipment
This project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will be completed in Summer 2024, and the second is planned for completion in Summer 2025.
Cartmell Hall will be razed sometime after the new residence hall is completed, possibly by 2026.
Cooper Hall is a four-story men’s residence hall built in 1965 and named in honor of former U.S. Senator John Sherman Cooper. Sen. Cooper was one of the first senators to sponsor civil rights legislation, support the censure of Senator Joseph McCarthy and oppose U.S. intervention in Vietnam. This led to him co-sponsoring the Cooper-Church amendment to cease funding of U.S. forces in Cambodia.
Nunn Hall is a nine-story residence hall built in 1969 and named in honor of Beula Nunn, wife of Governor Louie B. Nunn.
Cartmell Hall is a 16-story coed residence hall built in 1969. It is named in honor of Dr. William H. Cartmell of Maysville, the first private citizen to serve as chair of MSU’s Board of Regents.
