Kentucky Field Experience Tracking System (KFETS)

The Kentucky Field Experience Tracking System (KFETS) is an online application for tracking field experiences of teacher candidates enrolled in a Kentucky teacher preparation program and students who plan to enroll in a teacher preparation program in Kentucky.

Field Experience Requirements

Candidates in Kentucky are required to complete a minimum of 200 clock hours of field experiences in a variety of primary through grade 12 (P-12) school settings prior to student teaching. These 200 hours must meet the following categories as well:

Engagement with diverse populations of students, which include:

  • Students from a minimum of two different ethnic or cultural groups of which the candidate would not be considered a member
  • Students from different socioeconomic groups
  • English language learners
  • Students with disabilities
  • Students from across elementary, middle school and secondary grade levels

Observations in schools and related agencies, including:

  • Family Resource Centers or Youth Service Centers
  • Student tutoring 
  • Interaction with families of students;
  • Attendance at school board and school-based council meetings
  • Participation in a school-based professional learning community
  • Opportunities to assist teachers or other school professionals. 

KFETS Account Creation

KFETS is a program created by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB). You must create an account with EPSB and log in to their system to submit field hours. This does not replace the system currently being used by MSU using Folio180. Instructions are below for each type of experience.
