Internships and Education Abroad
MSU students have served as interns in the Kentucky General Assembly, the White House, U.S. Congress, and Canadian Parliament. They have participated in Kentucky Institute for International Studies and Cooperative Center for Study Abroad summer programs in Europe and Latin America. You will also have the opportunity to participate in these state, national, and international internship programs and study abroad programs.
Education Abroad Office
The Education Abroad office is designed to operate as a one-stop-shop for students interested in learning all about the study abroad options available to them through MSU. The office provides resources and guidance related to scholarship opportunities and preparation for traveling abroad.
Programs
The Kentucky Legislative Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to participate in the Kentucky legislative process. Students work for four months with Legislative Research Commission and General Assembly. Interns placed with legislative committees assist in researching and drafting legislation. The Washington Center for Internships and Seminars provides students with the opportunity to participate in life in the nation’s capital. During the academic year, students intern with national advocacy groups, international NGOs, federal government agencies, and congressional offices; in conjunction with their internships take courses and participate in leadership forums. The Center also offers Winter break and Summer topical seminars on current political issues. The Canadian Parliamentary Internship Program, sited in Ottawa for five weeks from mid-May to mid-June, involves students in the political life of a member of the Canadian Parliament by participating in the work of the MP’s office, attending House of Commons sessions, committee meetings, official government functions, and traveling to Montreal and Toronto. The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad offers Fall and Spring semester programs in London. During Winter break, CCSA has programs in London, London and Dublin, and Sidney. In the summer, CCSA programs include Australia, Belize, England, Ghana, Ireland, India, Jamaica, Hong Kong, and Scotland. CCSA also offers Spring, Summer, and Fall internships in Dublin, London, and Sidney. The Kentucky Institute for International Studies offers fall and spring semester programs in France, Germany, and Spain. In the Summer, Latin American study programs are sited in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico. In Europe, the KIIS has summer programs in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the Ukraine.
