Maintenance of J-1 Status

1. Upon arrival at MSU report to the Office of International Student Services (ISS) for SEVIS registration and an orientation session.
2. At the beginning of each semester report to the office of  ISS to be registered in SEVIS within ten days of the start date of the semester.
3. Maintain a valid Passport.
4. Maintain a valid DS-2019 form.
5. Engage in activities permitted only under your program and category. For example, a student is expected to carry a full-time course of study. Scholars are expected to engage in the activities governing his/her program category.
6. Apply for extensions and transfers in a timely manner.
7. Refrain from unauthorized employment. Unauthorized employment is a violation of your program status. An exchange visitor’s participation is subject to termination when he or she engages in unauthorized employment.
8. Maintain the required health insurance coverage. 
9. Report change of address within ten days.
