Academic Requirements

NPC Sororities

Panhellenic Association and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life recognize the importance of scholarship. All Potential New Members (PNMs) interested in joining NPC sororities must be regularly enrolled, full-time students in good standing according to MSU undergraduate enrollment standards. The Panhellenic Council does not require a specific grade point average (GPA) for students to participate in recruitment as each organization makes its own membership decisions. Additionally, each sorority has a minimum grade requirement to be considered for membership and initiation. The average grade requirement to join is around a 2.5 GPA. It is important to understand that if your GPA is lower than the chapter requirements, your opportunities for joining decrease but it is not impossible. Registering for Primary Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment allows the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to verify your academic records and share that data with the chapters.

IFC Fraternities

The Interfraternity Council and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life recognize the importance of scholarship. Students with 15 or more college credits (either from MSU or transferred into MSU) interested in joining IFC fraternities must have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher. A Potential New Member (PNM) with a 2.40-2.49 GPA can communicate with an IFC fraternity directly about an appeal process at their discretion. A student with fewer than 15 college credits must have a high school GPA of 2.50 and be a full-time MSU student. If the Potential New Member (PNM) is a first-semester freshman with no MSU GPA established, he must have an Academic Index 25 points higher than the minimum required to be a regularly enrolled, full-time student, according to MSU undergraduate enrollment standards. A transfer student with no MSU GPA established must have earned a minimum of 2.5 GPA from the last institution attended. The PNM must also be in good standing with the MSU conduct code and satisfactory academic progress.

NPHC Sororities & Fraternities

The National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life recognize the importance of scholarship. Students interested in joining NPHC historically African American fraternities or sororities must have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or higher. First-semester freshmen are not eligible.
