A credit card is required to charge for the replacement cost of the book in the event that it is not returned to the University Bookstore. If your credit card expires within 90 days of the end of the rental due date, you must use a different card or purchase the book instead of renting.

If you are charged and realize you still have the book, the University Bookstore can refund it within a brief time window. Please contact the bookstore as soon as possible if you are charged and wish to return the book.

First Day™ is Barnes & Noble College's inclusive access model, where digital course materials are included as an additional course charge for a particular course or program. This model is easy and convenient for student use, provides an affordable option, and supports student success by ensuring every student is prepared for the first day of class.

First Day™ course materials are digital versions of the physical textbook that may include additional educational resources such as workbooks, problem sets, tutorials, video, simulations, and interactive software. Digital textbooks have many features that allow you to interact with your course content like never before. Depending on the course materials used, features may include highlighting, annotation, search functions, and multimedia links. All First Day™ materials are easy to access through your course’s BlackBoard shell.

If you drop or withdraw from a First Day™ course, you may be refunded according to your school's policies for refunds on tuition and fees. You will have to pay the First Day™ Course Materials charge again if you re-register.

A full refund will be given in your original form of payment if textbooks are returned before the last day to add/drop a class (Monday, August 22, 2022) with the original receipt.

No refunds or exchanges without original receipt.

  • A full refund will be given in your original form of payment if textbooks are returned during the first week of classes with the original receipt.
  • No refunds on unwrapped loose-leaf books or shrink-wrapped titles which do not have the wrapping intact.
  • No refunds on Digital Content once accessed.
  • Textbooks must be in original condition.

All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the First Day™ program. You may opt out of purchasing the First Day™ digital course materials; however, you are still responsible for completing all work assigned by your professor. The Opt-Out tool is available through the Course Materials link in the First Day™ course in your course’s BlackBoard shell. You must Opt-Out before the deadline.

You must sign & accept your Financial Responsibility Agreement (FRA) in order to charge course materials to your student financial aid (SFA) account. If you have not accepted your Financial Responsibility Agreement, the system will cancel your order.

  • Click the FINANCIAL AID tab
  • Click External Provider
  • Provide your full student ID number without the “M” (ie. 1234567)
  • Click APPLY SFA FUNDS

The Barnes & Noble system automatically cancels orders if the payment fails. Payment failure can occur if you did not sign your financial responsibility agreement (FRA) before placing your order.

If you ordered a used book but only new copies are available, your order may say canceled; however, it is simply modified to reflect the charge of a new copy.

When First Day™ is listed on your course materials list on our website, it is merely an informational placeholder to let you know that your professor has chosen to use the First Day™ program in their class. Because there is no physical item to purchase, the order is modified.
