Campus Phones

Information on how to use campus phones.

EMERGENCIES

In addition to office phones, Emergency call boxes are scattered throughout campus for your safety. In an emergency, simply dial 911 from any campus phone to reach dispatch.

UNIVERSITY POLICE

Dial 3-2035 from a campus phone or 783-2035 from your personal phone.

ON-CAMPUS CALLS

Dial 3 + the last 4 digits of the number. (e.g. instead of 783-2035, dial 3-2035)

LOCAL CALLS

Dial 7 + seven-digit telephone number. (e.g. 7-783-2035)

LONG-DISTANCE CALLS - FACULTY AND STAFF ONLY

  • Faculty, staff and students should use a calling card service for placing personal long-distance calls from campus.
  • Faculty and Staff business-related, long-distance calls:
  • Dial 7 + 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number. (e.g. 7-1-606-783-2035)

INTERNATIONAL CALLS

  • Dial 7 + 011 + country code + city code + telephone number. (e.g. 7-011-123-606-783-2035)
  • International calls will be billed to departmental budgets on a per-minute basis.

800/888 SERVICE

Dial 7 + 1 + 800 + seven-digit telephone number.

Voicemail is available to faculty and staff through your office phone. Faculty and staff who need to establish a voicemail account should contact the OIT Help Desk at 783-HELP (4357) to place a work order.

INITIALIZE YOUR VOICE MAILBOX

  • Dial 3-4999 or the VMAIL button on your campus phone.
  • Press * to indicate you are a subscriber to the system.
  • Enter your five-digit mailbox number (the last five digits of your campus phone number).
  • Enter your initial password (obtained from Information Technology at 783-HELP (4357))
  • Follow the voice prompts to change greetings and name recordings.
  • MESSAGE RETRIEVAL FROM CAMPUS PHONES
  • Dial 3-4999 or the VMAIL button on your campus phone.
  • Enter your password.
  • Follow the prompts.

MESSAGE RETRIEVAL FROM PHONES OFF-CAMPUS

  • Dial 783-4999.
  • Enter your mailbox number (last five digits of your campus phone number), followed by #.
  • Enter your password.
  • Follow the prompts.

When new telecommunication services or changes to existing services are needed, the campus community should contact the OIT Help Desk at 783-HELP (4357) to facilitate the changes. Once the needed services have been determined, someone from Information Technology will contact you concerning the cost of your request and the procedures to follow.

COST TO INSTALL

  • A dual-line basic telephone instrument (model 7821) where an outlet exists - $115
  • A multi-line phone (model 7841) where an outlet exists - $165
  • A multi-line phone (model 8851) where an outlet exists - $268
  • Installation of a new communication outlet to accommodate voice or data - Initiated by submitting a Construction Estimate Request form through Facilities Management.

If multiple items are required, the above costs are additive in nature. These costs represent reimbursement of expenses incurred in purchasing and maintaining the requested equipment and are subject to change as equipment supply costs change.
