The A. Frank and Bethel C. Gallaher Memorial Music Award provides music competition awards to full-time junior students. Candidates must be nominated to audition by an applied instructor.

For returning theatre majors.

The Art Leadership Scholarship is offered to entering freshman art majors. Applicants must submit a portfolio of work to be reviewed at the annual High School Art Day event.
 
Required Application Portfolio:

  • Portfolio of 8 to 10 art pieces completed within the last 2 years (include examples of more than one medium; Digital portfolios must include a list of artworks and media)
  • Two Letters of recommendation, one of which should be from an art teacher or other teacher familiar with your work
  • Written statement of your reasons for wanting to major in art at MSU (attach to application)
  • High school transcript
  • Completed application form

Applicants must bring their portfolio, completed application and required materials to High School Art Day at Claypool-Young Art Building. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Byrd H. Perry Memorial Scholarship 

 

Overview

To be eligible students must be incoming freshmen from Bath County, Kentucky with preference given to those living in Salt Lick. Students majoring in music, history, government or political science related fields will be given first preference. Students must demonstrate strong participation in community service.

Clyde I. James Endowment 

 

Overview
Recipients of the Clyde I. James Scholarship shall be full-time students seeking a degree in music education or music performance. Recipients must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are eligible to receive the scholarship. The recipient shall be a current member of the Phi Mu Alpha organization. This scholarship is renewable, pending the recipient continues to meet all eligibility criteria.

Frances Edmundson Scholarship 

 

Overview
The Frances Edmundson Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate full-time students majoring in the Department of Music. Recipients shall maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. The scholarship may be renewed up to three times if the criteria is met.

Overview
Outstanding student in the Department of History, Philosophy, Religion and Legal Studies. Preference is given to students who have a particular interest in Kentucky History.

Overview
The Harlan Hamm Scholarship is for juniors or seniors majoring in strategic communication. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.

Jamey Aebersold Jazz Scholarship 

 

Overview
The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Scholarship is awarded to jazz studies majors who are from the University's primary service region. Preference will be given to Bachelor of Music Jazz Studies students. Recipients shall maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in music and a 2.5 GPA overall and have unmet financial needs as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid.

Lola Crosthwaite Memorial Scholarship 

 

Overview
The Lola Crosthwaite Memorial Scholarship is for a full-time junior majoring in sociology, social work, or criminology. The recipient shall have a minimum GPA of 3.3. Preference will be given to students who are single parents. The scholarship may be renewed one time as long as a 3.3 GPA is maintained.

The music scholarship awards are available to qualified students (incoming freshman and transfer students only) as determined through a scholarship audition. These awards serve numerous students annually. All awards are contingent upon admission to the University.

The Theodore Presser Scholarship Award is available annually to a junior or senior, outstanding music major. The recipient must be nominated by the faculty. Virginia and Evelyn Harpham Music Scholarship for String Players

 

Overview
The Virginia and Evelyn Harpham Music Scholarship for String Players is for students pursing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education Teacher Certification (P-12) or Music Performance. Recipients shall play a string instrument. Preference will be given to students who have participated in or shown interest in Symphony Performance. Selection shall be conducted by the University Scholarship Committee based on recommendations provided by the Department of Music Faculty.
