Star Theater
The Space Science Center's Star Theater at Morehead State University is a state-of-the-art digital planetarium serving the surrounding area of Eastern Kentucky. It serves as a classroom and planetarium for the region's educators, MSU students and the public.
In addition to our public shows at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. (laser) on the second and fourth Saturdays, we have several special events throughout the year.

In April and May, we’ll be showing some of my favorite shows: Capcom Go (April 11, 1:30 p.m.) about lunar exploration, When Venus Transits the Sun (April 25, 1:30 p.m.) an astronomical feat of one of Captain Cook’s expeditions to the south pacific, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon laser show (April 25, 3:30 p.m.), and Oasis in Space (May 23, 1:30 p.m.) about the important role of water in fostering life on the Earth and maybe elsewhere.
Upcoming events in the sky include a ‘Pink Moon’, the first full moon of spring, on April 2. Comet MAPS will be at its closest point to the sun, its tail at its longest and most visible, around April 4. Mercury, Mars and Saturn will form a cluster in the eastern sky, and Venus will appear near the crescent moon in the western evening sky in mid-April.
The Lyrid Meteor Shower will peak in visibility in the early morning hours after the Moon sets between April 20 and 21. On April 23, Venus, Uranus, and the Pleiades star cluster will appear close together in the western evening sky. The Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower, debris from Halley’s Comet, will be visible just before dawn during May 5-6. Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter will form a tight grouping in the western evening sky in mid-May.
The director of the Star Theater, Dr. Pamela Clark, will be doing a book signing and discussing her latest 'space' publication, "Extreme Exploration: Celebrating and Applying Lessons Learned from the Apollo Expeditions," on Thursday, May 5, at 5 p.m. at the Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop and CoffeeTree Bookstore at 159 E. Main Street in Morehead.

The planetarium offers public shows on second and fourth Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. throughout the year.
A Star Theater show includes a special feature from our extensive program library and a live tour of the night sky under our full dome. Our shows include full-dome planetarium feature movies on various science topics and laser shows.
During the summer, we have two additional activities on the Saturdays of public shows. In June and July, we have hands-on science activities at noon. As weather permits (the sky is clear), we offer opportunities to view the night sky with telescopes at 8:30 p.m. (when it gets dark).
The Star Theater is available by reservation for schools, families, and community groups.
The Star Theater is now recruiting new crew members from the MSU student body to support our activities year-round.
