TEAS Testing (ATI Nursing) 

The ATI TEAS, or Test of Essential Academic Skills, is a standardized test designed specifically to assess a student’s preparedness for entering the health science fields.  

TEAS tests offer an alternative way to qualify for admission into college nursing programs.  Morehead State University’s Nursing program accepts TEAS tests to supplement and/or in lieu of ACT scores.  The ATI TEAS has been proven to be a valid predictor of early nursing school success.  Your score on the TEAS is one measure of academic preparedness that helps Morehead State University Nursing program consider your acceptance into our nursing program(s). 

The ATI TEAS test comprises 170 questions formatted as multiple-choice items with 4 answer options and alternate-type items. This includes 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions.  Students have 209 minutes (about 3 and a half hours) to complete the exam.

Reading – 45 questions (55 minutes)

Math – 38 questions (57 minutes)

Science – 50 questions (60 minutes) 

• Human Anatomy & Physiology – 18 
• Biology – 9 
• Chemistry – 8 
• Scientific Reasoning – 9 
• Unscored Pretest Items – 6 

English & Language Usage – 37 questions (37 minutes) 

• Conventions of Standard English – 12 
• Knowledge of Language – 11 
• Using Language and Vocabulary to Express Ideas in Writing – 10 
• Unscored Pretest Items – 4 

To register for TEAS testing at Morehead State University, contact the Morehead State University Testing Center at 606-783-2526 or testingcenter@moreheadstate.edu. Include your name, MSU ID#, and your preferred TEAS test date (see available dates below). Seating is limited so register for your preferred date as soon as possible. Create an ATI account at www.atitesting.com prior to your test date.

ATI, the official provider of prep for the exam, recommends that you allow yourself at least 6 weeks (about 1 and a half months) to prepare for the exam. There are a variety of prep resources available to help you study for the exam. Go to www.atitesting.com to view ATI preparatory resources.

Morehead State University Testing Center gives the TEAS test throughout the year. Upcoming 2023-24 test dates are (all times 9 a.m.; test dates subject to change):

ATI TEAS Assessment fee at Morehead State University is $115, cash or check. 

Bring a photo ID, MSU ID#, atitesting.com username and password, and fee to the testing site. 

If you take the TEAS at the MSU Testing Center, you will not need to do anything. We will pull the scores and make them available to the Nursing Dept. 

The ATI TEAS assessment may be taken a maximum of 3 times per year with a 4-week wait period between attempts.
