Move-In Information

On what is likely the most exciting day of a new student's collegiate experience, our campus and community will welcome thousands of students to their homes away from home and showcase the care and commitment that we collectively share to ensure our students' success.

This webpage is the starting point for students, and we will share important details to ensure your move-in experience is as easy and pleasant as possible. Returning students should visit the returning student move-in page for information about their move-in day expectations and process.

Watch this video for tips and info to make your move-in day go smoothly!

Move-In Process Parking Information

FAQ

Move-in processes begin for first-year students in the overflow parking lot across US60 from the main campus. On your arrival into the lot, you will be directed to line up and subsequently begin your move-in as space around the halls allows. Please view the move-in video above for additional instructions and information about MSU move-in. Please note, if you do not have an EagleCard you will need to visit the EagleCard Office on the ground floor of ADUC prior to arrival.

Students should make every effort to arrive during their scheduled move in time. If they are unable to arrive while their building is still moving in, they should plan on moving in over the weekend with returners.

There will be volunteers present to assist students with moving in and carrying their items to their rooms. However, if you have access to a handcart or dolly that will make your experience even smoother.

We are asking families moving in to limit the number of people that assist their student. One vehicle will be allowed to line up for move in process and ideally, one person and the student will be in it. If there are additional vehicles or people we will likely ask them to park and shuttle to the halls.

There is no set time, but we are asking one person to remain with the vehicle (not the student), and when all items are out, the vehicle is moved to satellite parking so that others may move in/check-in. This process is one that is built upon all of us working together to limit the amount of time for all.

Once all items are removed from the vehicle and the student is checking in, the vehicle needs to be moved to one of our satellite parking lots. You can follow signage to direct you to the satellite parking lots.

There are MSU Shuttles running throughout the day to help people navigate the campus. During the move in process there will be significant disruptions and delays getting around campus with numerous road closures and detours. Utilizing the MSU Shuttle will allow you to get to the halls, satellite parking, ADUC, and most everywhere else you would need to go on move in day without worrying about parking, traffic, or routing.

Unfortunately, not. If you are unable to make your building time on the schedule for first-year student move-in, then you will need to wait and arrive to campus over the weekend with the returning students.

Students that arrive over the weekend will have a much different experience. They will proceed directly to their residence hall and not have a dedicated process for their move-in. There will be no volunteers to assist with their move-in. Traffic and parking will be significantly more congested on the weekend. We cannot emphasize or recommend strongly enough that making plans to arrive during your scheduled first-year student arrival time will set your year off to a great start.

Students that need to leave campus after their initial check-in should plan on not returning to campus until after 3:30 p.m. Move-in restrictions, traffic closures, and the overall move-in plan will cease operations on or around that time and students can travel freely throughout the campus without significant disruption or delay.
