Academic Probation
To continue enrollment at MSU, students must maintain certain GPA standings according to the number of credit hours they have attempted. Students who meet the following minimum cumulative GPA levels are in good academic standing and may continue to register for classes. Please contact your academic advisor for questions regarding your academic standing.
Required Grade Point Average (GPA) Standards*:
- 1.8 MSU cumulative GPA if 24 or fewer semester hours have been attempted
- 1.9 MSU cumulative GPA if 25-36 semester hours have been attempted
- 2.0 MSU cumulative GPA if 37 or more semester hours have been attempted
*Transfer credit hours are included in total hours attempted; however, only grades in MSU classes are counted in the cumulative GPA.
- UAR 123.08 Scholastic Standing
REQUIREMENTS TO EXIT PROBATION
A student on academic probation may enroll in no more than 16 semester hours of coursework during fall and spring semesters, and for no more than 3 semester hours of coursework during each summer session.
Students on academic probation are required to retake as many classes as possible in which they earned a “U” or “E” grade. This is also the most rapid way to exit probation.
Students on academic probation are required to complete the Academic Recovery Program.
