Carnegie Community Engagement Classification

Carnegie logoMSU is recognized as a community-engaged institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This recognition, first received in 2006 and reaffirmed in 2015, reflects our ongoing commitment to community engagement.

Partnerships between MSU and community groups improve teaching, learning, and scholarship while preparing students to be responsible citizens. They also help solve social problems, making a positive difference in society.

What it means for students

Throughout the academic career, students can get involved in campus-community partnerships that meet the needs of the region. From volunteering in a student organization to completing a service learning project, students give back to the community and develop critical thinking, teamwork skills and professionalism.

future plans for community engagement

Looking ahead, Morehead State University is seeking reclassification of its Carnegie community engagement status for the 2026 cycle. This involves a thorough self-study of our service learning and community engagement policies and practices throughout the university. We invite you to be a part of a campus community that not only values academic excellence but is also deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in the world.
