As a media intern for the Athletic Center on campus your job consists of helping with statistics, being in charge of social media postings, social media game story writing and working with local media groups. This opportunity will not only give you experience working with social media but also working hand-in-hand with the athletic department, athletes, and coaches.

The American Red Cross office in Ashland needs interns to engage in media relations, social media, photography and video production, and blogging for the organization. Some of the work may involve working at disaster sites or developing material about current activities and human interest stories. The work can be done in Morehead for the Ashland office. There is required training on the Red Cross as an organization and its processes and procedures. Some travel for the internship may be possible in the event of a disaster.

Located in Fort Worth, Texas, Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. is a leading producer of military, manned and unmanned aircraft. They are looking for summer interns who are currently enrolled at a university and majoring in communications, public relations, journalism or English. Responsibilities include assisting in developing, managing and executing communications strategies, preparing projects for advertising and branding, collecting data and developing and executing internal communications alongside other interns.

The Building Opportunities for Leadership and Development (BOLD) Internship is a paid internship through Google, where rising undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to work on teams with people in their area of interest. The Marketing and Communications team includes but is not limited to event planners, designers, statisticians and analysts who work together to shape what Google is. The superintendent at Breathitt County Schools is looking for an intern or interns to assist with internal and external communications. The school system maintains a website, a Facebook account and a Twitter account, and the superintendent needs assistance using them effectively to tell the school’s many stories. The superintendent is looking for students in convergent media, strategic communication, social media and public relations, and event planning.

The director of the Cave Run Storytelling Festival is looking for an intern to use public relations tactics and social media to interact with new and past attendees, promote the festival and more. Responsibilities include reviewing feedback surveys from the last festival, taking pictures at festival activities, posting news and personal stories relevant to the event, writing news releases and developing publicity or promotional tactics.  

Interning at city hall in Paris includes creating packets, assisting in communications, working with various teams, organizing visits for the mayor and more. To be eligible you must be over the age of 18 and pass a drug screening.

As an intern your duties include, but are not limited to shooting and editing videos, working with a variety of companies and growing in your knowledge of media productions.

Located in Central Kentucky, Girls on the Run (GOTR) Lexington is looking for interns to join the marketing committee. Duties for this position include promoting GOTR in various outlets, spreading the word to donors, volunteers and families through social media, and working together with many other teams.

If you have a love for technology innovation or storytelling, this is the internship for you. Working hand-in-hand with the corporate communications team at HP, you would be on the front line of all news communications. Applicants must have a background in communications, marketing or journalism and be outgoing, assertive and knowledgeable about social media channels. You will have direct contact with newsmakers across the company and be working closely with various teams at HP.

The purpose of this internship is to promote MSU’s Kentucky Center for Traditional Music (KCTM), its students, its faculty, its events and its facilities. Interns will use the official MSU social media accounts and webpages for KCTM and will develop brief stories, photos and simple videos for those. Will require brief training in the use of MSU accounts and there may be some opportunities for travel to music events to do work for the internship.

You can work as an intern for Kentucky State Parks at a variety of locations, including:

  • Barren River Lake State Resort Park
  • Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park

Duties would include receiving, confirming and canceling reservations, registering, checking out and in guests, operating a switchboard, receiving and posting charges to guest accounts, assuming responsibility for the treatment of guests and completing reports. Requirements to apply for this position are one must be enrolled full-time in a Kentucky-accredited school with a 2.5 GPA.

As an intern for KET, you'll get hands-on experience with the TV network. Duties include writing press releases, assisting in promotional campaigns, assisting with social media platforms, assisting with events and researching and maintaining community relations contact data. To be eligible for this position, you must be at least a junior in college. Graduate students may apply.

Interning with Lexington Podiatry will provide you with various eye-opening opportunities to expand your knowledge through hands-on experience. Duties depend on the time of year and current needs, but typically range from editing and posting on social media sites/accounts, editing the website and assisting in planning events. There is flexibility in scheduling and duties.

This organization in West Liberty, Kentucky, operates a cable television facility and needs interns to help them develop local programming for their cable channel. These would be small-scale, short programs about ten minutes in length. The production work will be done in West Liberty but the editing can be done on campus. For days when students travel to West Liberty, the company will provide gas money for the intern(s).

There is an internship opportunity with the MSU Eagles football team to record their practices in Jayne Stadium. This could an internship from August through December for three credits. The team contact also needs students who can assist with video editing, graphic design and social media.

This internship is focused on developing awareness and interest among MSU and high school students in the possibility of teaching in STEM programs as a career. Students will use the official MSU Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts to develop stories and create photos and simple videos that highlight activities and people related to the program. Will require brief training in the use of MSU accounts and may require some local travel.

This is a full-time, paid internship for undergraduate and master’s degree students. It is a 12-week program that gives you the opportunity to build knowledge and skills in the intelligence analysis field. Some responsibilities include being trained by senior NSA analysts, using advanced analytic tools and techniques, conducting independent and original research and documenting and reporting findings to help satisfy customer requirements.

They might also develop brief testimonial videos for social media or the Human Resources and Payroll web pages.

College internships at WKYT-TV are offered in news, marketing, promotion and production/creative services. Interning at WKYT-TV gives you first-hand experience for developing programming, writing stories, interviewing and editing videos in a professional setting. To be eligible for this internship you must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Lex 18 is offering internships to students able to help produce a news commentary program hosted by Matt Jones. They are seeking motivated students to help guide the coverage, select topics for discussion and monitor the social media conversations surrounding the topics of the day. Applicants must be at the junior or senior level and they must seek credit through an internship contract with their university.

Internships are offered in several areas including sales, marketing/promotions, programming/production and creative services.  Interns work alongside experienced staff members to gain experience in their chosen field and contribute their talents and energies to Lexington’s Cumulus Radio mission.
